What the Qur’an and Sunnah Teach Us
A Natural Gift Mentioned in Revelation
Honey occupies a special place in Islamic tradition.
One of the most beautiful references to honey appears in Surah An-Nahl, The Bees.
Allah says:
« There emerges from their bellies a drink, varying in colors, in which there is healing for people. Indeed in that is a sign for a people who give thought. »
Qur’an 16:69
The verse invites believers to reflect upon the creation of the bee and the remarkable substance produced through it.
Honey and the Sunnah
Honey is also mentioned in authentic hadith.
In Sahih al-Bukhari, Abu Sa’id Al-Khudri رضي الله عنه narrated that a man came to the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ because his brother was suffering from an abdominal problem.
The Prophet ﷺ instructed him to give his brother honey. The man returned several times, and the Prophet ﷺ continued to tell him to give honey. Eventually, the man recovered.
This narration is recorded as Sahih al-Bukhari 5684.
Honey as a Means, Healing From Allah
Another authentic narration in Sahih al-Bukhari states:
« Healing is in three things: a gulp of honey, cupping, and cauterization… »
Sahih al-Bukhari 5680
For Muslims, these narrations are part of a broader understanding: a treatment can be a means, while the ultimate source of healing is Allah.
This distinction is important.
Honey should therefore not be presented as a guaranteed cure for every illness. Rather, it is a natural gift that Islamic revelation identifies as having healing in it.
A Tradition That Continues
Today, millions of people around the world continue to enjoy honey as part of their diet and traditional practices.
At Medina Honey, we seek to honor this heritage while presenting honey with honesty, care and respect.
ARTICLE 4 — How to Recognize Pure and Authentic Honey
What Should You Look For When Buying Honey?
With so many honey products available today, consumers often ask an important question:
How can I choose good-quality honey?
There is no single visual test that can prove whether a honey is authentic. Color, thickness and crystallization alone cannot establish purity.
Instead, several factors should be considered.
1. Know the Origin
A quality honey should have clear information about its origin.
Where was it produced?
What type of honey is it?
Where was it harvested?
Traceability helps consumers understand what they are buying.
2. Understand Natural Variation
Natural honey does not always look the same.
It can range from very light to very dark.
Its texture can also vary considerably.
These differences may come from the flowers visited by bees, the region, the season and other natural factors.
3. Crystallization Is Not Automatically a Problem
Some people believe that crystallized honey has gone bad.
That is not necessarily true.
Many natural honeys naturally crystallize over time. The speed and texture of crystallization can vary according to the floral source and composition of the honey.
4. Read the Label
Always look carefully at the ingredient list.
A product sold as pure honey should clearly communicate what it contains.
The label should also provide useful information about origin, quantity and storage.
5. Trust Transparency
At Medina Honey, we believe trust begins with transparency.
Customers deserve to know what they are buying and where it comes from.
The goal should never be to make honey appear artificial or perfect. Natural honey has its own character — and that is part of its beauty.
